Hello Everyone,

I decided to write down some tips about AAing and escorting.
This is not about golden angle or ship setups, a single question on fleetchat or vent can help you there, and i know for sure that you'll get an answer.
The purpose of this post is to point out some advanced aspects that may seem logical to some, but it's better to point them out.

Soooo, you got a CL, set it up for AA, learned your golden angle and started make credits out of poor CV's. If you play this right you'll become a favorite for BB's and even CV's on your team, here's some tips to get there:

1) Learn not only your gold angle, but also your low angles and any other angle, like a BB should! When planes fly right above your head, golden angle is not really usefull, right?In time you'll be able to use the correct angle to shoot incoming planes, whatever altitude they are at.

2)Learn the planes by the sprites, you should be able to tell if a plane is a scout/fighter/divebomber or torpedobomber by it's looks, that helps you prioritize targets and anticipate movement and behaviour.

3)Your mission is to shoot down planes, but also NOT to shoot down friendly planes.Anything between these is common sense.
For example: If you see 1 bomber going for your teams BB, but the bomber is chased down by 3 friendly fighters and will not make it to the BB, why shoot? The bomber will go down anyway, no reason to shoot down friendly fighters with him...
On the other hand, lets say 10 bombers go for the friendly BB and 3 poor fighters struggle to keep up with them.The fighters have no chance to take down the bombers intime.I suggest to start shooting untill no bomber is in the sky, fighters or not around.Your primary objective is to protect the BB, not to protect the fighters. In this case if the fighters go down it's the CV's fault.The CV should get more fighters on the bombers earlyer, or pull them of the bombers it time for AA to shoot them down.
The same common sense applies to returning enemy bombers too. IF you don't risk friendly planes, shoot them down, make sure they don't come back for another bomb run....

4)Common sense applies also on prioritizing targets. Is a single scout more important than 10 bombers coming in?should you first shoot fighters above your head that are ready to go down cause they're out of fuel, or the fresh scout coming in?....I hope you understand...

5)The best AA escort is the one that the escorted BB never worries about. You need to be as close as the escorted BB BUT never get in his way. Learn how BB's move , how individual BB players move. It's certain that there will be a time that crossing will be the only option. Shout "XXXX" and get out of the way as fast as you can!
Remember that BB's 80% of the time are looking not at they're ship, but where they're shooting, it's your responsibility not to get in they're way.

All the above are just tips, use them or not is up to you. It's just personal observations through my experience and while they work for me, they may not work for everyone.

The best nation for AA is the KM (Germans). They can use many types of AAW guns.

KM AAW gun types:
3.46"/76 SK C/32

golden angle: 36

profs(+):
- very good reload (0.80 will be an overkill on high lvls ^^)
- lvl lvl required (only lvl 30)
- they don't take much space (you can fit them on emden slots with 17 binds of ammo)
- very good for farming AA missions (even on lower lvls, but w/o success on these ofc)

cons(-):
- small range (not the worst, but not that good also)
- small damage (they dont kill fps that fast and sometimes they dont even oneshot scouts)
- only AA shells

use them on(CL+):
- Emden
- H39
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.1"/65 SK C/33 A

golden angle: ~32*

profs:
- good reload (1.20)
- good range (not IJN range, but still good)
- they don't take much space (14 binds on emden)
- bigger train speed(a bit more experts, but not that much)

cons:
- very short golden angle lenght (*its hard to shoot planes with GA, because it is effective only on the middle range of guns)

use it on:
- Moltke (it has not enough space for 5" guns and not much T-slots per side for 3.46")
- Deutschland (it has a bit more space than moltke, but still)

5"/61 KM 40

golden angle: 32

profs:
- good reload (1.20)
- good range
- good damage

cons:
- only AA shells
- require more space than 3.46" and 4.1" (only 7 binds on emden)

use it on:
- PS.P Project (20 binds on main T-slots and 8 bind on 4 side gun slots)
- H44
- Kaiser
- Andrea Doria (with or without the prem single AA guns on those small slots)

5"/45 SK C/41 A (didnt test them tho)

golden angle: 30 (not sure)

profs:
- prolly more range than 5" km 40 (because of lower GA)
- you can mount HE

cons:
- take a lot of space.
